3.2 Streams and Files

Java provides very flexible mechanisms for handling input/output from/to files. However, this flexibility comes at a certain price: the Java standard library contains a large number of classes related to file input/output which can be combined in many ways; thus the beginner has a hard time to get the overall picture. In this section, we therefore first sketch the general concept and then show concrete examples as they typically occur in practice.
